Most people believe men are strong with little room for emotional display, but this isn’t always true. Deeply rooted in the persona of every man is the need to be needed, appreciated, cared for, and appreciated.

The need to feel needed psychology states that everyone wants to feel significant in the eyes of others. It means feeling the need to do something for others, even if it’s one person. When this condition is not fulfilled, you may feel useless or lack a sense of purpose.

According to Psychologist Mert Şeker:

There is a model determined by Maslow. This model is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs model. According to Maslow, people do not focus on higher-level needs without meeting certain needs. If the need for respect and esteem is unmet, the individual cannot rise to self-actualization, which is the need at the next level.

Thankfully, a romantic relationship is where many men can achieve heroism and genuine appraisal. It is what drives them to go out into the world with courage.

That’s why you must know how to make a man feel needed or learn how to make a man feel appreciated. When a man feels wanted and needed, he feels like a king, and he will do anything to keep that position and make you happy.

How do you make a guy feel like he’s needed?

It’s not strange to hear people say, “I just want to feel loved and wanted.” Isn’t that what everyone wants? No matter how strong and self-sufficient your partner may look, understand that he also wants to feel wanted and needed in your life and the relationship.

Making your man feel needed doesn’t mean going out of your way. To know how to make a man feel needed, start by telling a man you need him.

Aside from telling a man you need him, you also need to learn phrases to make a man feel like a hero. You must know what to tell a man to make him feel special.

According to psychologist James Bauer, the Hero instinct indicates a man wants to feel needed by you. It means your man has to feel like he’s constantly helping his queen in any situation. If you can make your man feel like a hero and allow him to take care of you, he will make you happier and more satisfied.

Does a man like to feel needed?

Do men like to feel needed? Yes! Every man likes to feel needed in a relationship. Blame society, but most men grew up to believe they are the providers and protectors of their loved ones.

As per Psychologist Mert Şeker:

Evolutionary psychology helps us understand the man’s role in providing for and protecting his family. This role dates back to when human ancestors lived in hunter-gatherer societies. Men may be evolutionarily programmed to feed and protect their families by engaging in activities such as hunting and warriorship.

Denying them that privilege means you are snatching away their sense of identity. The need to feel needed psychology is deeply entrenched in every man, so they will feel lost if you don’t allow them.

How important is it for a man to feel needed in a relationship?

It is crucial for a guy to feel needed in a relationship because it makes him feel like a hero. It defines your partner’s role in the relationship and makes him feel satisfied.

Again, men believed they were the protector and providers of their loved ones. Once they attain their long-time ingrained purpose, it gives them fulfillment and boosts their self-esteem.

15 Ways on how to make a man feel needed

Here are some ideas that you can use to help the man in your life feel needed

1. Ask him for help

One of the best solutions on how to make a man feel needed is by telling a man you need him. Immediately he hears this; he is fulfilled. It is the fastest way to trigger his hero instinct. Don’t assume your partner won’t be able to help. Ask him and watch him go over the board to satisfy you.

2. Make him your safety net

When you seek solace in your man, you let him know you find peace around him. That means making him your listening ears and abode. Try to talk to your man about it whenever you have an issue, even if he might not solve the problem. That will make him feel valued.

3. Seek physical intimacy

Physical intimacy is vital to men because it makes them feel attractive. Your man wants to know you desire him naturally and not because of the other things he does for you. It makes him feel proud among his friends and in society. In turn, he will move the mountain to make you happy.

Psychologist Mert Şeker suggests:

Physical intimacy plays a vital role in making the man feel the need for himself in a relationship. This intimacy may include physical acts such as touching, hugging, and sexual contact. This closeness contributes to the man’s feeling of love, affection, and attention.

4. Acknowledge his contribution to the relationship

You may have probably said thank you to him many times, but one way to know how to make a man feel good is to acknowledge his good behavior. Tell him you appreciate everything he does to make the relationship work. Importantly, you should appreciate him for the little things he does so he can know you pay attention to him. This gesture will encourage him to do more.

5. Let him use his strengths

Another way how to make a man feel needed is to put his strength to use. Start by asking him to do specific tasks, like fixing the bulb, fixing the pipes, and lifting items around the house. As little as these activities sound, requesting his help gives him a sense of accomplishment.

6. Show him support when he’s down

The best moment to make your man feel needed is when he is emotionally down. This feeling makes him feel vulnerable, and he may want to hide it from you. So, instead of judging him, show him you understand how he feels. Encourage him and assure him everything will be fine.

7. Be affectionate

If you can be intimate and loving with your partner, you will make him feel wanted. Be free and romantic whenever you are around your partner.

Psychologist Mert Şeker further says:

If a man is strongly and securely attached to his mother during childhood, he will attach importance to love and affection throughout his life. On the other hand, a man who was not securely attached to his mother during childhood will still need love and affection.

Act like a baby and release yourself to be loved by him. Be open-minded and let him know how you like to be loved. Kiss, cuddle, and hug him whenever you have the chance. These actions tell your man, “You matter to me.”

This gives him clues about his roles in the relationship and your life. Your man will feel like winning a jackpot and set to action immediately.

9. Don’t nag

Nagging is a behavior primarily associated with women. To nag means to complain incessantly about unnecessary things. If you want to know how to make your man feel needed, don’t overdo the nagging. Otherwise, it will push him away.

Of course, there are certain habits you dislike in your partner. So, instead of complaining about little things, tell him something that makes you sad in a calm tone.

10. Compliment your partner

Women seem to receive constant compliments, but your man also needs it. Even if you disapprove of his dress, find something in his attire and appreciate it.

For example, ask where he got his cufflinks, as they look magnificent. He may appear like it doesn’t matter, but he loves it. Tell him you like a particular shirt in his wardrobe and watch him wear it whenever you are around.

Also, respect is another way to tell your man he is appreciated and valued. If you want to strip a man of his dignity, ridicule and shout at him in front of his friends, children, or family members. That immediately makes him feel outcasted and embarrassed.

12. Be yourself

Making your man feel needed or wanted doesn’t mean you should lose yourself in the process. A man will feel loved more when he knows you don’t pretend. He may be your listening ear or comfort place but don’t neglect your other interests. Once he knows you have an original sense of identity, he will be motivated to prove himself more.

13. Give him space

Feeling needed doesn’t mean you should choke your partner with your presence. Understand that everyone needs me time to think about their life and get their affairs together. However, it doesn’t mean you should neglect each other.

Giving your partner space allows him to enjoy other activities and have fun with his friend without feeling trapped. This reinforces his manly nature and lets him know he is in control.

14. Show interest in the things he likes

Another way to know how to make a man feel loved is to show genuine interest in his activities. Football is one of the activities many men are passionate about. Even if you don’t have an interest in it, try asking a few questions like, “Who is this player?” “What’s his role?” “Why did he get a red card?” etc.

Questions like these tell your man you are interested in things that matter to him. As such, he’ll take his time to explain to you. Before you know it, you will be analyzing football games in a few weeks.
