How to Make Him Want You: 15 Ways (Without Trying Too Hard)

15 ways to make him want you

Attracting the attention of a guy so you can keep him wanting you is not always easy.

You might be nervous around him, or perhaps you just don’t know what to do to figure out ways to turn him on.

When you want to make a man want you or are looking for tips to turn him on, consider the following fifteen strategies.

1. Be confident.

A key method to make him want you is to be confident in who you are, quirks and all. Don’t be afraid to show your true personality or your silly side.

According to Kristen Failla, LMFT, “Within all efforts to be perceived as desirable, it is important to stay grounded within your own sense of self. This strengthens and supports how you relate to your own identity while also connecting meaningfully with others.”

If you have confidence in yourself, this will attract the right man. In fact, research shows that people value partners who are self-confident.

• Example: Share your opinions openly in conversations or laugh freely at your own jokes instead of worrying about how you look.

2. Be agreeable to trying new things.

Being open-minded is attractive, so it is important to be open to new things if you want to make him desire you.

Whether it is agreeing to see a movie that isn’t your usual genre or trying a hobby that he enjoys, when you are willing to try something new, you will keep him interested.

• Example: If he enjoys hiking or trying new restaurants, suggest joining him for one of those activities, even if it’s outside your usual routine.

3. Keep a positive mindset.

If you want to make a man attracted to you, try to stay positive. Being pessimistic all the time isn’t attractive, so if you can stay upbeat, even in the face of challenges, you will make your man want you more.

• Example: When plans change unexpectedly, focus on finding something fun to do instead of dwelling on the inconvenience.

4. Practice self-care.

While you don’t need to be a supermodel to keep your man sexually attracted to you, when you take care of yourself, you are more likely to feel and look your best, which will increase your confidence and make you more attractive.

Practice self-care by eating nutritious foods, exercising in ways that you enjoy, and engaging in restorative activities, such as taking a relaxing bath or prioritizing an early bedtime.

• Example: Set aside time each week for activities that help you recharge, such as going for a walk, reading a book, or practicing yoga.

“Self-care is not selfish! It is one of the most loving things you can do for both yourself and your relationship, because when you feel well in your own body and mind, you naturally show up more fully for the people you love.” said by LMHC Grady Shumway.

5. Avoid being clingy.

If you give your man space to breathe and explore his own interests, this will make him desire you.

On the other hand, being clingy or desperate and demanding all of his attention is typically a turn-off because he needs to know that he can still have his own life if he is involved with you. Taking time to explore your own interests apart from him actually makes you more attractive, and it makes your time spent together more valuable.

• Example: Instead of texting him constantly throughout the day, spend time with friends or focus on your hobbies

6. Choose yourself.

It may sound cliché, but it is true that when you choose yourself, others will want to choose you too. This means that you should not put all of your time and effort into pursuing the man you want.

Instead, prioritize your own goals and interests. When you have your own ambitions and go after them, this will make him want you back.

• Example: Continue working toward your career goals or personal projects instead of rearranging your entire schedule around him.

7. Acknowledge his viewpoint.

One of the ways of how to leave him wanting more is to acknowledge his point of view. Men want to feel understood, so when you listen to his opinions and show that you have heard him, he will value you even more.

Kristen Failla highlights, “Remember that acknowledging and agreeing are not the same. The ability to empathize with an experience or perspective that is very different from your own while maintaining your own individual perception or belief can draw people in to wanting to connect with you.”

When he shares with you a topic that he is passionate about, take time to really listen and reflect back to him what he has said, which will leave him feeling like you “get” him.

• Example: If he talks about a hobby he enjoys, ask thoughtful questions and show genuine curiosity about it.

8. Give genuine compliments.

While you do not want to be too over-the-top, a heartfelt compliment is one of the best ways to turn him on and attract him to you.

Guys may feel as if their efforts or strengths are never appreciated, so if you take time to compliment his outfit or his taste in music, he is sure to remember you.

• Example: Tell him you admire how dedicated he is to his work or appreciate his sense of humor.

9. Take time to enjoy yourself.

If you’re wondering how to get him, the answer is to keep doing what you love. Explore your interests, and show that you are enjoying life.

When a guy sees that you are happy doing your own thing, he will want to find out more about you, and he will be all the more interested in becoming a part of your life.

Don’t think you need to give up on your fitness goals or your house remodeling project just to make more time for him. When he sees that you have hobbies you enjoy, it will make you more interesting and more appealing.

• Example: Continue pursuing hobbies like painting, dancing, or fitness classes that make you genuinely happy.

10. Build sexual chemistry gradually

Physical attraction can grow naturally when both partners feel comfortable and emotionally connected.

Small moments of playful flirting, meaningful eye contact, or light teasing can create excitement and anticipation in a relationship. When attraction develops gradually and respectfully, it often feels more genuine and enjoyable for both people.Open communication and mutual comfort are key to building chemistry in a healthy way.

• Example: During a conversation, hold eye contact for a moment longer than usual and smile to create a playful connection.

11. Have your own life.

Having a world apart from your man keeps you interesting and shows him that while you want him in your life and enjoy his presence, you don’t need him.

This level of independence keeps you appealing and prevents him from getting bored with you. Part of what men enjoy is the thrill of the chase.

If he can easily have you because your entire life revolves around him, he may lose interest and respect for you.

• Example: Maintain friendships, personal goals, and activities that are separate from your relationship.

12. Use physical touch to your advantage.

When a man desires you, he will crave physical touch. If you want to attract him to you and keep him wanting you, tease him with some physical touch the next time you have a conversation. You might nudge him on the shoulder or gently tap his arm to express your interest.

• Example: Laugh during a conversation and lightly touch his arm to create a warm and playful moment.

13. Work on your flirtatious body language.

If you are thinking, “Making him want me is my top goal,” you have to learn how to flirt with your body language. Smile and make eye contact.

It not only shows that you are interested in him but also indicates that you are confident. You may also try holding his eye contact for a few seconds and then smiling and looking away.

• Example: Make eye contact while talking, smile naturally, and lean slightly forward to show engagement.

14. Wear the color red.

You may be surprised to know this, but wearing red is one of the ways of how to make him want you.

In fact, studies have shown that men are more romantically attracted to women wearing red.

Kristen Failla mentions, “When it comes to self-expression, make sure you are only doing what you are comfortable with and in agreement with. There is no ‘one way’ to gain others’ interest, and it is valuable to prioritize maintaining your own interest in yourself. “

If you are going on a date or know you will be running into him, you might consider wearing your favorite red dress to keep him wanting you.

• Example: Choose a red dress, blouse, or accessory when meeting him to subtly enhance attraction.

15. Establish strong values and stay true to them.

Men respect a woman who knows what she values and who stands true to herself.

Decide what it is you value in life, and be prepared to uphold these values. This not only allows you to attract the right man but also makes you appear more confident. Don’t be willing to settle for something that is less than what you value.

• Example: If honesty and commitment are important to you, communicate those expectations clearly in the relationship.

While trying to build attraction, people sometimes unknowingly adopt behaviors that can push the other person away. Being aware of these habits can help you maintain a healthy balance in the relationship and keep the connection enjoyable.

Common mistakes that can reduce attraction

While trying to build attraction, people sometimes unknowingly adopt behaviors that can push the other person away. Being aware of these habits can help you maintain a healthy balance in the relationship and keep the connection enjoyable.

1. Being overly available

Spending time together is important, but being available every moment can sometimes remove the excitement and anticipation in a relationship. When someone gives up their routines, hobbies, or social life for a partner, it may create pressure rather than attraction.

Maintaining some independence keeps interactions fresh and meaningful.

• Tip: Maintain your own plans, friendships, and hobbies so the relationship feels balanced and interesting.

2. Trying too hard to impress

Constantly trying to impress someone can make interactions feel forced. Attraction tends to grow when people feel relaxed and authentic around each other.

When you focus too much on gaining approval, it may create unnecessary pressure instead of building a natural connection.

• Tip: Focus on genuine conversation and shared experiences rather than trying to prove your worth.

3. Losing your individuality

Healthy relationships thrive when both partners maintain their own identities. If you start changing your personality, interests, or opinions just to please him, the relationship may begin to feel less genuine.

Being true to yourself helps build respect and long-term attraction.

• Tip: Continue pursuing your interests and express your real opinions during conversations.

4. Being overly negative

Constant complaints or negative energy can make interactions feel emotionally draining over time. While everyone has difficult moments, maintaining a generally positive outlook makes time together feel more enjoyable.

People are often drawn to those who bring warmth and optimism into conversations.

• Tip: Practice sharing positive thoughts, gratitude, or small wins during your conversations together.

5. Ignoring emotional connection

Physical attraction and excitement may spark interest initially, but emotional connection is what keeps attraction growing over time. If conversations stay superficial or lack genuine interest in each other’s feelings and experiences, the relationship may struggle to deepen.

Building emotional understanding helps both partners feel valued and appreciated.

• Tip: Ask thoughtful questions about his experiences, interests, and goals to create deeper and more meaningful conversations.

Ending note

Attraction rarely comes from trying to force someone’s interest. More often, it grows from authenticity, confidence, and meaningful connection.

When you focus on enjoying your own life, appreciating the other person, and creating positive experiences together, interest tends to develop naturally. Healthy attraction is built on mutual curiosity, respect, and emotional connection.

By staying true to yourself and nurturing genuine interactions, you give the relationship space to grow in a way that feels natural for both of you.

LMHC Grady Shumway, relationship expert says “Ultimately, the most magnetic thing you can offer another person is the fullness of who you genuinely are, because real, lasting attraction is never built on performance, but on the courage to show up authentically.”
