Counseling vs. coaching

Coaching and counseling both play a great role in discovering your inner-self.

However, there are a lot of differences between coaching and counseling, out of which the biggest is that coaching requires in-person training and months of online modules.

After this, a coach does many hours of coaching and is then registered with coaching organizations. Meanwhile, counseling requires vast training programs and at least three years of proper practice after which a person is eligible for being a counselor.

Moreover, coaching helps deal with problems using practical solutions whilst counseling requires coping up with the reasons that led to the problems.

Coaching supports you to achieve your goals; counseling helps you solve your problems. A coach gives you challenges to accept, but a counselor helps you with compassion. Coaching is basically all about your present and future, while counseling mainly focuses on your past. Coaches are not supervised, but counselors always work under supervision. Coaching is paid if you want to, but counseling is private and can be covered under insurance too.

Choosing the right option

Even though a life coach and a psychologist both address similar problems, their work is not similar.

If you want to know better which one is best for you, you need to assess your troubles clearly. It’s up to you what you choose for yourself. If you want to go for steps that help you move on without anyone asking you personal questions, it is better you go for coaching.

On the contrary, if you want to look within yourself and find out what is withholding you, you definitely need counseling.
