Most of my cleints are involved in athletics in some way (athletes, coaches, staff, etc) -BUT- Long before I ever became a psychologist, I learned that all of these individuals ARE STILL PEOPLE. Society often places these people on a pedastal and forgets this fact. Yet, athletes of all ages and abilities, from professionals all the way down to youth sports, still have many of the same relationships as everyone else. Think about parents, peers, significant others - athletes are no different and have these same relationships. BUT, they also have other relationships that are still similar, but slightly different from others. Those relationships include coaches (similar to a boss or teacher) and teammates (similar to siblings). One area where athletes are different is the relationship they have with fans and the media. All of these relationships affect my clients in different ways and I help them by guiding them to more effective ways to interacting with others, especially those closest to them, so that they can have meaningful connections and relationshiops with the people they love and care about the most.
