As author of several books on therapy and on marriage plus blogposts that have garnered close to 18 million reads on psychologytoday.com, I've thought a lot about what it takes to help couples turn around a troubled relationship. Overall, I aim (1) to help both spouses learn to talk together more safely and productively, (2) to understand with self-compassion where earlier in their lives their problematic habits were learned, and (3) to use their new understandngs and skills to create mutually satisfying solutions to the issues that have in the past been sources of conflict.
