4 Movies That Show You What Not to Do in a Relationship
Every couple has a fight at some point, it is inevitable. It is after the fight that really matters. Some arguments can get out of control and make or break a relationship. Here are four films based on how the couples argue and how the outcome of these fights affects the relationship.
According to the American Psychology Association, there are several factors that make up a good and healthy relationship. Married couples fight about quality time, finances, house chores, and sometimes infidelity is involved. It can be very painful and sometimes people might not know what to expect when an argument starts. The factors to a better relationship include fighting fair, communicating to get to know each other, taking risks, and complementing each other often. I put together a list of movies that show you what not to do if you want a successful relationship. See if you and your spouse can relate to these movies.
Paige and Leo are very much in love. Until a tragic car accident leaves Paige without her memory. Leo helps her try to remember but it is difficult. Paige is in her studio when Leo walks in to try and talk to her and tell her how passionate she was about her artwork. He says she used to play her music loud to get her creativity flowing. She yells at him to stop! Turn the music off I have a headache!” This was an intense scene.
You have a couple who loves each other deeply and in a relationship, we just want to fix our spouses problems for them. This scene is a good example of fixing someone else’s problems when the other person wants to figure out things on their own. It is ok to suggest things to your spouse in a loving way but it is not ok to get mad when things do not go exactly as you planned.
Dean and Cindy fall in love and get married but soon their marriage starts falling apart. Dean gets into a fight with Cindy at her job, causing Cindy to get fired. Dean and his lack of ambition and Cindy wanting more out of life strain their marriage. They start growing apart. This is a good example of couples wanting different things so it becomes hard to communicate. Failure to communicate can hurt a relationship since it is the base of any relationship with each other and the relationship becomes toxic. If there is no communication in a relationship, there is no relationship. A relationship is based on many factors including communication.
We sometimes can get comfortable with our spouse and our routines, thus making it easy to take each other for granted. Brooke and Gary a couple who is at a crossroad in their relationship, they break up and fight over their condo they share together. Their break up is because Brooke does not feel appreciated by Gary. He feels that everything Brooke says is an overreaction. Two people in the relationship need to feel heard. This is a good example of bad communication and feeling underappreciated. What to do instead is sit down and really talk about what you need from each other, do not assume they just know.
Caleb and Catherine are an example of not truly listening or making time for the other person. Catherine feels that Caleb only cares about himself and he feels that Catherine never listens to him or meets his needs. They fight constantly and tear each other down. He finally realizes that he might lose his wife so with the help of his father he finds ways to be there for his wife and show her they can be a team like husbands and wives should be.
There are many factors to consider for a better relationship. What all these movies have in common is they lack what good relationships should have. Such as good communication, quality time, fighting fair and taking some risks together. No relationship is perfect but working on some key points will only help you and your spouse become stronger in the relationship.
