17 telltale signs you might be a woman who likes women

Recognizing one’s own feelings toward others can sometimes be a journey of self-discovery, filled with nuanced emotions and subtle cues. If you’ve ever pondered over your attraction toward women or questioned the nature of your connections, you are not alone.

Many women can find themselves exploring these thoughts, seeking signs and experiences that resonate with their personal feelings. Here are 17 telltale signs you might be a woman who likes women, which can help clarify your emotions and deepen your understanding of your desires.

1. You feel a special excitement when she’s around

When you’re in the presence of another woman, and your heart races, or your spirits lift unusually high, it might be more than just friendship stirring these feelings.

Such excitement can be a key indicator that you’re a woman in love with a woman, especially if this heightened sense of happiness is consistent and distinctly linked to her presence.

2. Your compliments go beyond the surface

You find yourself complimenting her on not just her looks or style but deeply personal traits and achievements.

If your praises are heartfelt and extend to aspects like her intelligence, kindness, or sense of humor, they might suggest deeper feelings, possibly indicating that you’re a woman who likes women.

3. You envision a future with her

If you catch yourself daydreaming about possible future scenarios with her, from simple outings to major life events, it’s a sign that you’re emotionally invested in a way that goes beyond platonic friendship, which can be a sign you’re a woman who likes women.

4. Jealousy when she’s with others

Feeling jealous or uneasy when she spends time with others, especially romantically, is a strong indicator of personal feelings. This emotional response can be one of the signs a straight woman is attracted to another woman, highlighting a deeper connection than mere friendship.

Note: Jealousy does not necessarily indicate attraction or love. It can be control, insecurities, fears, desire etc

5. You prioritize her happiness

If making her happy feels incredibly important to you, so much so that you often put her needs and happiness before your own, it might indicate that your affection is rooted in a romantic attraction.

Note: It could but could also be co-dependant friendships or other dynamics such as people-pleasing.

6. Physical contact feels different

When touches, whether casual or intentional, feel charged with a special kind of electricity, it’s a significant sign. You might notice a lingering hand on your arm, or simple hugs feel different, carrying more warmth and lingering longer than usual.

Danica Mitchell states,

7. You share more with her than others

If she’s the first person you think of sharing news with, whether good or bad, and if you find yourself opening up about your deepest thoughts and fears, it’s indicative of trust and deep emotional connection—key aspects of romantic feelings.

8. You’re interested in her dating life

An interest in her dating life that goes beyond typical friend curiosity might indicate that you have feelings for her. You might find yourself asking about her relationships or how her dates went with a keener interest than usual.

9. Her opinion matters a lot

When you’re making decisions, big or small, and you find her thoughts and opinions to be crucial, it suggests a level of admiration and care that often aligns with romantic feelings.

10. You feel a sense of protectiveness toward her

Feeling a strong urge to protect her, whether from physical harm or emotional hurt, is one of the signs a woman likes another woman. This protective instinct can be a clue that your feelings are more than platonic, reflecting a deep-seated care and concern that is often romantic in nature.

11. You seek out her company

If you constantly look for reasons to be around her or feel disappointed when she’s not there, this is a strong sign of attraction.

Such behavior is one way to answer “How to know if you like a woman,” as it shows a clear preference for her presence over others.

12. Her happiness affects your mood

When her highs and lows directly impact your own mood, it indicates a deep emotional connection. If her smile makes your day and her sadness dampens your spirits, it suggests that your feelings are intertwined with hers.

13. Romantic fantasies

If you daydream about romantic scenarios or intimate moments with her, this is a possible sign of your attraction. These fantasies can include anything from holding hands to going on a romantic date, indicating that your interest goes beyond platonic.

14. You defend her passionately

When someone criticizes her or her actions, if your instinct is to defend her vigorously, this protectiveness can be a sign of deeper feelings. Being her advocate, especially in her absence, shows significant emotional investment.

15. Special nicknames or inside jokes

Creating a shared private language through nicknames or jokes that only the two of you understand can cultivate intimacy. This unique communication is a testament to a close and possibly romantic bond, indicating you may be a woman who likes women.
