I believe that even though we are often hurt through relationships, we can also receive healing through relationships. I desire for people to experience the healing power of being vulnerable and real with God and one another (to know and be known).
My approach to marriage counseling is an integration of Intimacy Therapy (Intimate Life Ministries) and Emotionally Focused Therapy that helps couples to experience meaningful attachment, identify and meet core relational and emotional needs, and to navigate conflict and obstacles to intimacy.
When working with premarital couples I enjoy using the Prepare-Enrich Assessment that identifies key areas and issues for each couple to specifically work on with their premarital therapist. I have found this approach to be very helpful in premarital therapy because it helps to narrow the focus on the issues that are more likely to cause distress and conflict in the marriage.
