Hi there, I’m Dr. Russ. I have always liked helping people, but only for completely selfish reasons! It makes me feel good to help someone reduce distress. Let’s work together -- in person, by phone, or online.
Professionally, I suppose I'm actually Russ Silverberg, DBH, NCC, LPC, LMHC, CTHP... but just 'Dr. Russ' is easier, right? I have always liked helping people…for completely selfish reasons! It makes me feel good to be helpful when others are in distress.
Let’s work together in person, by phone, or online, to reduce your suffering.
Stress physically changes us. Exposure to stressful situations instantly triggers measurable physical and physiological changes in the body. Stress changes our brain and body chemistry, affecting how we think, feel, and see the world!.
People try to avoid stress whenever we can. An excellent plan! Until life happens. I specialize in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other methods of combatting stress by recognizing the mental traps we all experience daily! We will spend some time thinking about how you think.
New info! The more we learn about human physiology, and how our brains relate to both our minds and bodies, the less we need the imaginary line saying mental and physical health are somehow separate in our bodies.
Anxiety and Depression are not “mental problems.” They are common chronic health problems, just like Diabetes and Hypertension.
Depression and Anxiety can result in sadness, loneliness, worry, and desperation. But these occur through changes in brain chemistry (lower levels of dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins, serotonin).
Similarly, Hypertension and Diabetes change your blood chemistry, systematically destabilizing blood pressure and glucose levels, and producing various mind-altering neurochemicals.
Depression and Anxiety affect the system of the brain that regulates emotions. Just like Diabetes affects the endocrine system and kidneys, like Hypertension affects the cardiac system and heart.
Me? My specialty is helping people with problems on both sides of the imaginary line between mental and physical health. Clients managing with Anxiety or Depression who are also dealing with Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Hypertension, and other chronic health issues.
My doctorate focused on evidence-based treatment for multiple and overlapping chronic health conditions. We know that people diagnosed with Diabetes, Hypertension, or cardiac issues are statistically more likely to develop Anxiety or Depression. But the mental health conditions are just as likely to come before those physical conditions as afterwards!
If you have a chronic issue that affects your health, whether you want counseling or just a private conversation, give me a call to come in for a FREE 15-minute consult. Let’s just chat about what you’re looking for, and see if we are a good match. And if not, I may have better choices for you.
