For couples in therapy, I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) and integrate other therapy models into the work as well.
EFT works a little differently than other therapeutic approaches. The effectiveness of EFT is discovered through experiencing a new awareness and a different way of communicating during the therapy session, then bringing it home with you. Through these experiences, partners learn to diffuse the heat or melt the ice between them, interrupt the negative cycle of interaction, and create room for a new way of self-expression and communication.
