Couples/family therapy is an approach where the therapist needs to align, at certain times, with one or the other in an effort to help them see the maladaptive or disorganized emotional and behaviors that are being exhibited. When working with couples/families, there are times will I will work with one client at a time prior to everyone participating so that I can acquire where the discord might be coming from, but to also be able to help the couples/families work through their own individual insecurities together.
