Esperanza Pombo, LPC Intern in Washington, DC

About

Esperanza is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University and she will graduate in the summer of 2023 with the aim of becoming a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC).
As an Imago therapist in training, Esperanza works with couples to help them re-learn ways to communicate, relate and explore their relationships by creating safe and positive environments. She uses dialogue to deepen their connection while also promoting introspection, allowing them to learn about themselves, their aspirations, their fears as well as their strengths.
Esperanza is passionate about working with couples and individuals in areas such as improving self-perception, self-esteem regulation, adapting to stress, burnout, post-partum depression, and life transitions. She is interested in working with interracial and multicultural couples and individuals to better explore triggers and navigate stressors related to acculturation, race, ethnicity, or spirituality. She is also eager to explore these areas with adolescents and young adults and build on their inner power to work through issues and empower them to become their own healers.
Her experience living in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East has allowed her to learn about different cultures and worldviews. She is fluent in Spanish and English and is available to work with clients in both languages.
Esperanza transitioned from a career in conference interpreting which included working for multilateral institutions and in academia. She holds a BA and a MA in Translation and Interpreting, and a MA in Public Relations Press Office Management. She brings a vast experience in multiculturalism and a strong understanding of the challenges that come with being an ex-pat and an immigrant.
