I approach relationships from a trauma-informed view. Not everyone who has experienced a trauma is traumatized but there are often trauma symptoms such as hyper-vigilance, trouble remembering and issues with sleeping and more. Unfortunately, generally people believe trauma is only reserved for someone in a war zone or physical or sexual abuse. Due to the approach I take, clients often feel heard, understood, and safe to work through the problems they are experiencing. Generally in working with the partners of addicts and distraught parents, my first goal is safety and stability then grief and loss and finally, post-traumatic growth because their situation may or may not have changed, but they can still have healing.
