The two strongest modalities I utilize as a Therapist are Phsychoanalytic and Cognitive Behavioral theories. Initially my intake includes a detailed history of the clients background as well as their current life circumstances. I believe that a clients emotional base for their personality is established in early childhood. This base is then developed as the child enters into the world of interactions with others. Issues such as low self esteem or inflated self esteem then become the foundation from which each person in a partnership interact. By increasing each clients self awareness they can then improve their individual approach towards their partner. I then most often discuss healthy communication techniques such as "I" messaging followed by a goal statement utilizing feeling identification. I will connect individual traits contributing to marital differences encouraging negotiation and compromise. When needed I incorporate anger managment and parenting skills. Ultimately I want to increase empathy and mutual consideration for one another.
