I approach marriage counseling in a similar manner to individual counseling, by listening carefully and asking lots of questions. As I hear your answers and listen to your worries, I focus new questioning and practice strategies for each person to try out at home.
Oftentimes the behaviors that get in the way of a marriage are behaviors that are disruptive elsewhere; sometimes there are other speciific worries that must be addresses.
Regardless of what is making a marriage difficult, I am ready and able to steer the ship forward with patience and unconditional regard for both parties.
Some of the specific counseling philosophies I put to work include CBT, psychoanalytic and relationship theory. I choose those strategies that are the best fit for the personality and situation, and transition bewtween modalities smoothly.
