Heike’s goal is to guide clients including their loved ones and family members on their journey to regain stability in their lives by helping them in gaining insight into the reasons behind their challenges (e.g., interaction between thoughts, emotion, and behavior; relationships between brain and behavior, changes in their lives after a brain insult or other injury) and how these challenges impact a client’s life while also teaching coping skills (coping skills can include strategies or tools to support one's thinking, emotions, and everyday functioning).
For family members, such support can include teaching how to communicate with and understand their loved ones, and how to assist and support their independence. At the same time, Heike promotes self-compassion and compassion for others.
Heike also provides rehabilitative care and counseling services under the umbrella of 'Brain Health, Aging, and Dementia Care'. In the capacity of Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapist, Heike assists people and families who experience cognitive concerns for reasons such as concussion, other types of brain injury, or conditions that affect brain function (e.g., learning difficulties, cognitive aging/ mild cognitive decline/ dementia/ dementia prevention).
