My heart breaks every time I see couples who are stuck and running out of hope. "What's going on?" "The world says we're supposed to be okay being alone, but I feel miserable and alone." "What happened to us?" "How did we get here?" "We were never supposed to be those ‘other couples’." Relationships can become painful and unsettling. And disappointing. The good news is relationship injuries can be repaired. And, you can have the hopes and dreams you’ve long since dismissed as a pleasant fantasy.
I’ve been divorced, and I’ve been almost divorced after 17 years. Divorce taught me what life feels like at its worst. Near divorce taught me how to actually be married. It's been 8 years since then, and I now have the marriage I dreamed of in the beginning. My near divorce also led me to return to school to study relationships and ultimately test for licensure. Emotionally-Focused Therapy is my proven, evidence-based framework for working with couples. I’ve watched it work in real couples!
My education, life-experience, and relational lens give me a practical insight into relationships and how awful it can feel when they're not working. My goal in session is to create a safe, judgment-free space that values and gives voice to each individual in the room.
