I use the Developmental Model of Couples Counseling created by Doctors Ellyn Bader and Peter Pearson. Using this model I guide couples to understand their past influences on their styles of communicating and reacting to spouses, their current stresssors affecting their relationship and their future goals in how they each want to be in their relationship. I focus on clients leanring more about themselves and influencing partners. I teach skills to listen to partners and control own emotions so they can stay in difficult conversations. I also teach negotiation skills so partners can successfully discuss and create solutions to problems.
