Are you tired of feeling like your partner just doesn’t get you or they don’t make sense to you? Feeling like your needs aren’t being met, even if you’ve tried talking about them? Having the same conversations over and over again that always seem to turn into an argument? Struggling to remember why you got with your partner to begin with? Avoiding important conversations because it just feels like so much work to have them?
Are you ready to take a step forward and honor your journey as a couple and as individuals? Identify and ask for what you really want and learn how to truly listen? Talk about the hard stuff? Create new, healthy patterns with each other? Learn how to operate as a team? Have fun and enjoy your life together? Be optimistic about your future?
Relationships are hard. And often times, they don’t always look like how we hope or know they could look like. Caring for kids or perhaps aging parents, growing a career, differences in the families and environments you and your partner were raised in, personality differences, and life stress in general make it easier for us to sometimes do our relationship side by side, but not really with each other.
There's a lot that gets in the way of having a cohesive partnership that is more joy than drain, but I believe that just because you've been relating to each other a certain way, it does not mean that you have to continue relating to each other that way. The relationship dynamic that you have now was all learned, which means that you can learn healthier, more positive and enjoyable ways of interacting with each other, too.
At the beginning of a relationship journey, couples often have warm feelings and optimistic thoughts like “I can really do life with this person” and “We’re so on the same page!” and “We just get each other” or even “Life with them is better than the alternative!" My goal in couples therapy is to help you intentionally build the relationship that you knew you had the potential for while helping you honor where you are in your lives now.
I use Gottman Method and emotional regulation tools to help couples communicate better, express themselves, truly listen, treat each other with compassion and kindness, grow, and enjoy the journey together.
Sometimes, growing together is no longer the goal in a relationship, and that's ok. If you’re looking for support to un-couple or co-parent, I’ll help you focus on your goals and navigate your next steps with compassion, clarity, and effective communication.
