Joel Hencken has over 40 years of experience working with adults and couples, using a wide range of therapeutic approaches, from psychoanalytic to internal family systems. He has supervised many therapists at Harvard University. He has long worked with LGBTQ+ and international clients. He considers singing and laughter to be two of humanity's greatest gifts.

Ultimately, I hope to help clients find new ways to understand and respond to the pain life brings, reduce the suffering that can grow from our reactions to that pain, and make more room for joy. Sometimes that means working through problems together, sometimes healing from trauma, and sometimes learning to listen to the body and to oneself in new ways. This applies to couples and their dynamics as well as to individuals.
