In working with couples, I try and help people to look at the repeated patterns in the ways that they interact that lead to problems, and to help people to interupt those and develop more productive patterns. I also look at how the differences in people's upbringing leads them to have different expectations, which leads to misunderstandings. And the way that roles in relationships reflect the families that people come from. Therapy tends to focus on problems,so I always try to rmmember to help people focus on what goes well in their relationship.
