Margaret, PhD, Psychologist in Greenwich, CT

About

I work with couples who are experiencing relationship distress, infidelity, adjustments/transitions (e.g., to a new job, new baby), difficulties with emotional or physical intimacy, and difficulties managing intense emotions as well as couples seeking relationship enhancement.
I am a pro-marriage therapist, meaning that I want you to keep your marriage intact, and will communicate hope that you can do so. I don’t believe that every marriage can (or should) be saved, but I want you to know that you did the best that you could to save your marriage.
I deliver couples therapy from an Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT) lens. Research shows that almost two-thirds of couples improve after IBCT. IBCT assumes that relationship problems result not just from the actions and inactions of partners but also in their emotional reactivity to each other's behavior. As such, I will work with you to make concrete changes to accommodate the needs of your partner and also show greater emotional acceptance of your partner. I will work with you through current issues that you are experiencing, and discuss how they may be part of a bigger pattern in the relationship. We will also discuss your past has shaped your present behaviors in the relationship. I also integrate other techniques, such as Gottman, Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, as needed.
