Ashley Southard, PhD, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is trained to help couples and families repair and rebuild their most valued relationships. Towards this goal, Dr. Ashley helps you and your partner identify painful communication patterns that may leave you feeling stuck, hopeless, and/or alone. Through therapy, Dr. Ashley will help you and your partner learn how to express specific thoughts and emotions that contribute to this cycle, all with the goal of communicating in an emotionally healthy and grounded way. For some partners, communicating thoughts and emotions feels very comfortable and so our work will help you express these parts of you in a more vulnerable and tender way. For other partners, communicating thoughts and emotions feels very uncomfortable, and so our work begins with just helping you get comfortable engaging in conversation and beginning to open up. As therapy progresses, both partners are able to share vulnerable parts of themselves with each other, ultimately leading to a fulfilling and deeply connected bond. This is what we all, as humans, long for, and yet most of us are never really taught how to do.
