About
I am a psychologist and author. I'm a couples counselor and an AASECT certified sex therapist who has lectured and taught about relationships and sexuality internationally, including in Canada, New Zealand and Australia. More importantly, if you are looking for help for your distress, I am known for being funny, down to earth, warm, intuitive, and smart. Also, I'm known for my forthright, active theraputic style and innovative ideas.
I am the product of a happy marriage and I have had a lot of success with couples, even if you are high conflict, and even if trust has been broken. I am not afraid of conflict. I truly believe that change is possible at any stage of life, and I have helped people who have been married for many, many decades to finally enjoy each other more in the later years of marriage.
I think it is important to reveal that I was married and have two children. I am now widowed and repartnered.
I am the author of three professionally published books about relationships and sexuality. My book SexSmart: How Your Childhood Shaped Your Sexual Life and What to Do About It won an award from ForeWord Magazine for being one of the top three self help books published in 1998.
I have been quoted in the lay and professional media since 1991.
Here is her statement:
I began my couples therapy training in 1993 with a half-year intensive training program at the Kantor Family Institute in Cambridge. Through the years, I have continued studying couples and marital therapy, taking workshops with Neal Jacobson Ph.D., David Scharsch, Ph.D., Barry McCarthy, Ph.D., among other teachers.
I began an interest in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) with a whole day workshop with Sue Johnson in 2006, and continued on with studies in EFT, completing her externships in 2011-2012.
I became trained and certified in AEDP for couples in April of 2018.
I am frequently quoted in the media and on the web about couples’ issues.
