The relationship we have with our spouse, partner, or significant other holds a special, and for some, even a sacred, place in life. There is nothing quite like it, both when we are happy in that relationship and when we are not.
Couples often contact me when they've lost the closeness they value, their communication and ability to resolve differences doesn't work like it once did, or they feel stuck and find it hard to enjoy one another's company any more.
Yet, the two of you were once happy and made the important choice to form a relationship together. Part of our work together will be to help the two of you remember the reasons and the ways that you were happy and in love with each another and to also remember that very same person has decided to come to therapy along with you.
When I meet with you and your spouse, partner, or significant other, we will work together to build and create the type of relationship you both desire. Rather than spending your time in therapy trying to negotiate, mediate, and repair the sometimes lengthy and often discouraging list of things that might be wrong, we will instead focus our sights on your hoped-for future together in which you both feel happy, loved, close, and fulfilled. Often, this is the kind of conversation that can begin to build hope, connection, and a shared sense of purpose. From there and with our eyes firmly set on that future for your relationship, we will work together to help both of you take meaningful steps toward it.
