First, I make sure the couple wants to improve their marriage, and not separate. Most want it to succeed! Next, I determine the main issues that are causing problems and go to work on those immediately, to give the couple relief and improve their relationship. Then, I help to clear individual issues that are negatively affecting the relationship and work on their positive relational skills. As problem issues begin to clear, I focus on the style of relating, more good times together, better communication, and working together as a team. The final part is more tailored to the specific goals as a couple, as well as integrating the changes and learning how to apply the tools on their own.
