When one or both spouses have broken the trust of sexual fidelity, there is often a question of whether the relationship can continue. For some couples, the affair may be just the last straw; there may be so many underlying marital issues that it isn’t desirable to work it out. If that’s not the case, then the only way the marriage can survive is with the rebuilding of trust and respect. This will not be easy, but it can be done. You will need to start small, with listening skills and developing compassion for your spouse’s feelings. Then you can achieve more trust and respect.
