Biblically marriage is understood as the union between one man and one women. Books of the bible that speak of marriage include Genesis, Romans, 1 Corinthians and the Gospels. In recent years, many mainline Protestant denominations have taken a more expansive view of marriage to include the union between committed, same-gendered partners. Biblical marriage is intended to be “for life,” so long as there are not issues with neglect, infidelity, or abandonment.

I think the Biblical idea of marriage is a lifelong, mutually-beneficial, loving relationship between a man and a woman. They are encouraged to exhibit Christian characteristics towards each other such as love, patience, kindness and respect. It is supposed to provide a safe and loving environment for children to grow up and learn about God.
