What is marriage?

The important question here seems to not to be what is marriage but why marriage? There are many among us, especially in the West, owing to years of indoctrination, for whom marriage symbolizes self-induced slavery, a rotting prison-house you have willingly imprisoned yourself in, where you're shackled from head to toe, by fatal bonds of your own pathological beliefs in a magical-fantastic-sublime love - the kind that does not exist. This sort of reasoning is systemic of a hedonistic society pursuing a destructive path of self-denial while playing out its nihilistic ephemeral fantasies. Elsewhere, life is simple. Have fun in your childhood but learn to get over it! Find a good job, woo your perfect life partner and enjoy the bliss of a married life with lovely kids and supportive and caring spouse. This kind of life is the only kind of life. Hope this answers your question or comment.

It seems to me you described your way of life or the way you want your life to be in the last 3 lines. Sometimes, it just doesn't go right. Then what? Do we still have to live in the dogma that our lives are perfectly fine and not be paradoxical enough to actually challenge the contemporaneity?

it is the coming together of two people who love each other to make their love permanent. of course, in time, this love is bound to go through myriad changes so marriage is also a union that requires an immense lot of effort, time, patience and care.
