Couples counselling works best if issues are tackled early on rather than being left for years. Problems don't go away if you ignore them. It works if both parties are committed to it and prepared to keep going even if it becomes uncomfortable. The therapist is there to help you confront problems, find possible solutions and change behaviour where necessary.

If you trust the counselor and really give it your all, following through with everything that is taught you they can really help your relationship. If there is not intimacy and true connection though in your relationship then it may help but only temporarily. There are many different counseling techniques to be used for couples and mostly they will help you to reach deeper into your relationship with each other and try things you haven’t before to get new ways of communicating and relating flowing. This can only help in a relationship and hopefully at least help ignite a fire.
