Romantic love is the kind of love related to sexual desire. It is heavily controlled by emotions such a passion and desire. It is the opposite of platonic love, where you have no sexual desires for that person whatsoever. it is believed that this kind of love alone cannot be be sustained for years and years.

Romantic love is often portrayed as the type of love that makes your heart beat fast uncontrollably and makes your knees weak. As Amy508 says, it is infatuation, except romantic love is reciprocated by the other party as well. While romantic love is the fun and exciting part, it does ebb and flow, and does not have the steadiness of true love.

Is romantic love different than other love? Romantic love can mean different things depending on the giver and receiver. Romantic love though is about intimacy, about creating close and intimate times together to really connect. It could mean having at least a romantic time set aside at least once a week to spend in affection, in truly getting to know one another, and have deep conversation. Romantic love cannot be separated from connection and close intimacy through words, actions, acts of service, or just holding each other embracing who the other truly is without judgment and with unconditional regard and support.
