What are Christian marriage vows?

Most marriage ceremonies begin, "We are gathered together here in the sight of God." The thought is that God is present to approve and bless the marriage and that gives another dimension to the marriage. My vows do not only include me and my future bride but also God.

Believe it or not, there are actually many different versions of traditional Christian marriage vows.  The vows you choose will be a personal decision, but the ones most people think of as the original are the Catholic wedding vows that are often used on TV.  They say, “I, [name], take you, [spouse’s name], for my lawful wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part."  That said, there are two different versions of the Catholic vows and many variations on that theme for other Christian denominations.
