The best way to prepare for family counseling is by making a few notes. Start by making a list of what you think the family’s main problems are, then add why you think the problems exist if you are comfortable doing so. Make a note also of what you’re hoping to get out of the counseling and what your main fears are in starting family counseling. Not only will this help you get your feelings out where you can see them and deal with them openly, but your notes could also be helpful when the counselor asks some basic questions during the intake process.
