Sit down with your partner and make a list of all the topics you want to discuss during the counseling.

Pray, if you are religious, that God will give you and your spouse humility and rekindle any love that his died down.

Talk to your spouse, and ask them if they are nervous, and if they've thought about what they want to talk about.

Think about issues in your current relationship; make a list of tough questions and prepare to speak honestly and be vulnerable.

You can prepare for marriage counseling by talking with your partner often, and practicing communication around some of the questions likely to be asked.  Get to know your partner in the weeks and days leading up to the counseling appointment, you will fare well in the sessions if you have already thought about and discussed some of the issues at hand.  Try a site like http://www.connact.com/~hom/blog/276questions.htm - 267 questions to ask before marriage – to choose some questions.  You can also write your own, and bring along to the session, notes relating to any questions or concerns you may have about your future together. The counselor, as a regular method of practice, may want to speak to both of you individually as well; do not panic as this is perfectly normal.
