How does couple therapy work

I have been wondering what I should expect from 'couples therapy'. My husband and I are going through a horrid phase in our marriage of 12 years. There are constant fights and disagreements and I feel the love had just faded off. Both of us wonder if we should even be together at all. We have no children. Our friends tell us we should go for some counseling or therapy before deciding on anything. I do love my husband a lot and want to save this. He's agreed on doing this therapy thing. But I'm not sure if it will help. Can someone please suggest?

Couples therapy, relationship counseling, marriage counseling; whatever name you decide to call it, is never an experience you're likely excited about. I can completely understand that you are nervous and so want that it benefits you both. But the good news is that it can help you out, it may get uncomfortable and open a can of worms but its a step you can consider to improve your relationship. I would advice to ensure that you go to a certified therapist - sign up with someone who is known and can you be comfortable with.

If you're a little worried about what might happen, here are a few things you can expect.
