Celebrity Divorce: An Excellent Moneymaker

Standing in line at the supermarket I can’t help but notice that every week some celebrity couple is reported to be divorcing. Most of the time these rumors are completely baseless and are a ploy to get people to fork over $3.99 to buy the magazine. Once in a great blue moon, they turn out to be true, like in the case of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck and most recently Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale. For every breakup the tabloids nail, there are two dozen they get so very wrong.
David and Victoria Beckham have been plagued by divorce rumors since they were married sixteen years ago. Sixteen years! The Beckhams are one of the few couples that have managed to stay married, naturally there must be something wrong with them, right?
Well no, they seem to be falling into a trend, echoing lasting marriages like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (m. 1988), Robert de Niro and Diahnne Abbott (m. 1976), and Alice Cooper and Sheryl Goddard (m. 1976). The media wants so badly for every couple to be a marital train wrecks. The odds have always been stacked against The Beckhams.
What is all the fuss about?
David Beckham has been accused of cheating in 2004, 2010, and 2012 all of which have been verified to be false; the 2012 accusation was also shot down by the alleged mistress as being false so, nice try “journalists”. The tabloids also have a habit of shipping two people together over nothing more than being at the same Starbucks at the same time so let’s take their “reporting” with a grain of salt.
It has to be frustrating to be Victoria Beckham. Every few years, a woman comes out of the woodwork to announce to the world an affair she’s had with Victoria’s husband. I give that woman credit for being able to stand by her husband and not be dragged down by all of the stupidity. It would be easy for any woman to become insecure after just one such allegation let alone three and all of the divorce speculation. Posh is one tough cookie.
After nearly twenty years, four kids, a fashion empire, and a reality show, the Beckhams are still together and still into each other. They’ve weathered ridiculous rumors and accusations from anorexia to adultery and I for one am rooting for them to keep it together.
