10 Facts About Kate & William’s Relationship
They may be royalty, but a look at their relationship shows that they’re no different than the rest of us when it comes to relationships. From her rejecting his first attempt at a kiss and him breaking up with her more than once—and one time because of an indiscretion on his part—these two have had their fair share of ups and downs.
Here’s a look at 10 facts about Kate and Williams relationship that shows us just how human they really are.
1. They started off as good friends.
Kate and William were chums at the start, with Kate taking notes for him when he’d miss a lecture at school and joining him on the occasional jog.
2. Kate rejected the Prince’s first kiss.
In 2002, after a charity fashion show, William tried to kiss Kate even though her boyfriend was close by. She rejected him and continued to put him off until they were both single several months later.
3. They were platonic roommates, supposedly.
Kate moved in with William and two friends and referred to themselves as “flatmates,” though the media wasn’t buying that, suspecting they were more than just roommates.
4. They got crafty to try to keep their relationship private.
They continued to tell the world that their relationship was strictly platonic and even went as far as to have William flirt with other women in public.
5. They “came out” with a sexy kiss on the neck.
Their relationship went public in 2004 when Kate joined William, his father, and other family on a ski vacation in Switzerland and Will was photographed kissing Kate’s neck in a way that was anything but platonic.
6. William, just like a lot of “regular” guys, just wanted some space.
In the summer of 2004, Will was the one to suggest a trial separation. They continued to live in the same flat with Kate, moving to a separate bedroom. They were back together by the end of the summer.
7. Their living arrangement was controversial and not likely what his family wanted.
William and Kate were the first royal couple to ever live together before marriage.
8. William slipped up with another woman and broke up with Kate again.
In 2007, Will again broke up with Kate, this time after she confronted him about a photo of him fondling another woman’s breasts during a night out.
9. Kate did what many gals do post-breakup and showed him what he was missing.
During the three months that they were broken up, Kate underwent a style transformation and starting dressing sexier and hitting the town with her sister.
10. Sense of humor is everything, even when you’re royalty.
William once said, “She’s got a really naughty sense of humor, which really helps me because I’ve got a really dry sense of humour”, showing that being able to make each other laugh is important no matter who you are.
It’s hard to see the royals as real people with real problems, but as we’ve learned here, being a prince doesn’t make you exempt from relationship slip-ups, jealously, or any of the other trials and tribulations of being in love.
