This Week in Weddings

Another fun week in weddings with Prince Wiliam’s engagement, followed by Jessica Simpson’s, an arrest on wedding day thanks to Twitter, and more!

Royal Engagement- Prince William and Kate Middleton finally got engaged!  This week it was official, and even tweeted, Prince William and Kate Middleton got engaged. Prince William proposed to Kate with the same engagement ring his Father used to propose to Princess Diana with. According to, the response on social networks to the engagement was mostly positive. “43% of users on Twitter and 32% of bloggers reacted positively to the news. Most conveyed a neutral reaction.” The couple is considering wedding venues at the moment and Westminister Abbey is a possible location. With England’s current economic woes, some are asking who will foot the bill. Apparently Prince Charles will be paying out of pocket for the wedding, although the police bill on the wedding day will become a national expense. We’re glad it has finally occurred as we’ve been tracking their path to marriage

Not Funny- A Chinese woman was arrested on her wedding day for a “re-tweet.” Cheng Jianping re-tweeted another author’s post and added her own words, “Charge, angry youth!” This prompted an investigation and a sentence to a work camp in China due to the content of the tweet that was addressing the nationalism behind the Chinese-Japanese dispute over the ownership of islands near both countries.

Jessica Simpson Engaged- After many relationships under the public eye, Jessica Simpson got engaged this week to her fiancée Eric Johnson former NFL player. After dating John Mayer and being married to Nick Lachey (we all remember the show Newlyweds on MTV) Jessica has had her fair share of the spotlight, so we wish her the best of luck this time around. Congrats to the newly engaged couple!

Wedding Dress Store Mishap- There was an unfortunate incident at a Chicago bridal store when a fire occurred and the store and all the wedding dresses in it went up in flames. Luckily there was lots of generosity shown as bridal shops and brides donated wedding dresses to brides and bridesmaids who had wedding dresses reserved at the store. There are many distraught brides, but you can help out. For more info click here.
