Second Time’s a Charm Recap

Last year we interviewed Sascha Rothchild, the author of How to Get Divorced by 30, she was in the middle of promoting her book which was about her personal experience and struggle with her first marriage, which ended up in divorce. She realized that she wasn’t married for the right reasons. Her book discusses her learnings from this experience…

Since then, she met her current husband, Matt. They are happy and madly in love and tied the knot in March! We actually interviewed her as she was wedding planning and promoting her book. Matt and Sascha had a destination wedding in Mammoth (the same place where Matt proposed atop a mountain…so romantic!) and are now married! It’s so fun to see things come around full circle. Below is her favorite photo from the wedding, along with a short story about how the two met and the big day. Congrats Sascha!

In the bride’s words:

Right around the time I met Matt I decided to stop being a the kind of person who hated everything and decided, I am not allowed to hate anything I haven’t even tried. So when Matt mentioned going snowboarding I had to say, “yes, I would love to join you.” I am from Miami, get cold if it’s under 78 degrees, don’t like being outdoors, and am not particularly athletic. I borrowed some ski clothes from a friend, rented a board, and headed up to Mammoth Mountain in Northern California. I was told in order to get snowboarding at all, you have to give it 3 full days. If after that 3 days I didn’t like it, well then it was within my rights to never try it again. On the 1st day there was falling and crying. On the second day there was falling and crying. On the third day something amazing happened. I wasn’t cold. I saw the beauty of the snow and the mountains and the crisp air. And I stayed on the board making wide turns down the bunny hill. 3 years later I am an avid snowboarder and Matt and I go to Mammoth whenever we can escape from our jobs in LA. It is our place. So after he proposed to me there, atop the frozen Sierras, we knew we would get married there.

Everyone was shocked. “You are getting married in March in Mammoth? Won’t it be cold?” “Yes, it will be cold. And it will be cozy and fun and romantic. There will be fire places and hot chocolate and breathtaking views.” We told our guests to dress in fun apre-ski clothes. Boots and warm scarves and wool leggings a must. We arranged for the gondola to take people to the wedding and reception, held in a ski lodge in the middle of the mountain. People ate comfort food as they watched the sun set over the perfect white landscape. My friends who go to Hawaii for all their vacations and love sundresses and palm tress, marveled at the beauty of the winter wonderland. There was something special about getting married in the winter, not only because Matt and I love snowboarding, but because the cold weather made the warmth of having friends and family around us all the more special.

If you decide to have a Mammoth Mountain wedding, winter or summer, Sandra at Green Fox Events is the best and The Westin Monache is our favorite place to stay.
